Course Description

Title: Home Health Aide (HHA) Training Program

Duration: 80 hours (5 weeks)

Overview:

This 80-hour Home Health Aide (HHA) course at Divine Watch Training School, LLC is designed to equip individuals with the skills and knowledge needed to provide compassionate, hands-on care for patients in their homes. As an HHA, you will play a vital role in improving the quality of life for individuals who need assistance with daily activities.

This course covers essential topics, including:

  • Personal care
  • Nutrition
  • Infection control
  • Communication and patient rights
  • Safety procedures

Through a combination of classroom learning and hands-on training, students gain the confidence and expertise to support patients with dignity and respect. Upon completing the course, students will be prepared to work in private homes, assisted living facilities, and hospice care settings, providing care under the supervision of registered nurses or other healthcare professionals.

This HHA course meets the Massachusetts Department of Health requirements for Home Health Aide Training. More than just assisting with daily tasks, HHAs provide comfort, dignity, and companionship, helping individuals maintain their independence at home.

Course Structure

The course follows a structured five-week schedule, with:

  • Week 1-4: Classroom instruction and lab training (64 hours)
  • Week 5: Supervised skills lab training under experienced nursing instructors (16 hours)

Upon successful completion, students receive an HHA certificate of completion from Divine Watch Training School, LLC.

Qualifications & Prerequisites

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • CPR (BLS) Certification (May be taken before or during training; separate fee if taken at the school)
  • Must pass a reading assessment test (in-person or online)
  • Photo ID required
  • No criminal convictions related to abuse, neglect, or mistreatment of patients

Learning Methods & Assignments

This course utilizes class discussions, assignments, and hands-on practical training to measure student outcomes.

Assignment Grade
HHA Theory/ Lab 80% minimum
Supervised Skills Lab P/F
  • Students must pass all written exams (quizzes and final exams) with at least 80%.
  • Quizzes can be retaken once; the final exam can be retaken once. Failure to pass on the second attempt results in dismissal from the program.
  • A written progress report will be provided after 50% of the course is completed.
  • Students must demonstrate competency in all required skills with 80% accuracy before attending the final supervised skills lab.

Background Check / Prior Convictions

  • No background check is required for this class.
  • However, students should be aware that employment as an HHA requires a background check clearance.

Student Dress Code

  • Students must wear an olive-green uniform (top and matching scrub pants or skirt).
  • This uniform is required for all classes, in-person sessions, state exams, employer fairs, and graduation.
  • A watch with a second-hand.

Permitted Attire

  • Closed-toe, closed-heel athletic or tennis shoes (primarily white, small accents allowed).
  • Neutral-colored scarves or skirts (for religious reasons).
  • Small stud earrings and one ring per hand.
  • Natural makeup.
  • Trimmed nails (no colors or designs).

Not Permitted

  • Cell phones (must be turned off and put away).
  • Hats or scarves (except for religious purposes).
  • Dangling jewelry.
  • Long, loose hair, extreme hair colors/styles.
  • Acrylic nails, overlays.
  • Heeled, open-back, or clogged shoes.
  • Jackets over uniform attire (only professional scrub jackets allowed).
  • Obscene or offensive tattoos must be covered during clinical experience.
